Intelligent Systems for Process Mining

Abstract:

Contemporary organisations rely more and more on operational processes to describe, analyse, and regulate their internal work. By suitably combining model-driven engineering and data science, process mining is nowadays being used by a plethora of organisations to discover, check conformance, formulate predictions, and ultimately improve operational processes based on the factual event data recorded during process execution. In this talk, we will illustrate some of the cutting-edge challenges in this field, and show how they can be effectively attacked by employing and further developing intelligent systems, in particular information systems empowered with knowledge representation and reasoning capabilities.

Biography:

Marco Montali is Full Professor and Vice-Dean for Studies at the Faculty of Computer Science, Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, Italy, where he also coordinates the MSc Program in Computational Data Science. He investigates foundational and applied techniques grounded in artificial intelligence, formal methods, knowledge representation and reasoning, for the model- and data-driven analysis of processes. He has served as PC Chair of BPM 2018, RuleML+RR 2019, ICPM 2020, and CBI 2021, is serving as General Chair of ICPM 2022 and EDOC 2022, and is steering committee member of the IEEE task force on process mining. He is co-author of more than 200 papers, many of which in top-tier conferences and journals, and recipient of 8 best paper awards and 2 test-of-time awards. He received the “Marco Cadoli 2015” award, given by the Italian Association of Artificial Intelligence to the best under 35 Italian researcher who autonomously contributed to advance the state-of-the-art in Artificial Intelligence.
